My grandpa told my parents today while I wasn’t around what a ‘lovely young lady’ I had become and that he was proud of me. My 90 year old grandfather graduated only as far as 8th grade in a one room school house in Missouri. There were three other kids in his class. I went to visit him today; he has a small little house under a willow tree with a garden in the back. He wakes up before the sun every day to work in it because thats the only life he’s ever known. He married the only girl he had ever loved, bought this home, and raised 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 18 beautiful great grandchildren under its roof. And he is proud of me. I’ll be the only one in my family to get a full college degree and never will I succeed in the way he did.
